Thousands of visitors to the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport marvel at the sea jelly exhibit, but few notice Mochon-Collura. Mochon-Collura is the keeper of the sea jellies. Her official job title at the Oregon Coast Aquarium is the curator of the Fish & Invertebrate Department.

“It’s an incredibly different animal that is so simple and yet so complex when you start to look more closely,” said Evonne Mochon-Collura. Sea jellies have been on this planet for more than 500 million years, making them the oldest multi-organ animal on earth.Ĭurator of the Fish & Invertebrate Department at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Evonne Mochon-Collura has earned the nickname "jelly mom." As invertebrates, they have no bones at all.

Contrary to their common nickname “jellyfish,” they are not actually fish.
